You can choose a small and cozy cottage on the beach of a quiet lake or a huge villa high in the mountain tops big enough for 12 people. Almost all of our accommodations allow pets on the premises. They are fully furnished with internet and tv connected. Depending on your budget, you might even get a house with sauna, jacuzzi and a private swimming pool.

The wonderful nature of Lombardy

The Lombardy region could be divided in two regions – lowlands and Alpine. The area is crossed by dozens of rivers, including the Po - the longest river in Italy. It has hundreds of lakes of natural or artificial origin. There are many valleys and peaks reaching more than 4000 meters high. The water bodies located here are very important for the environment and they continue to change the landscape to this day. The valleys of Valentina, Val Taleggio, Spluga and many more are a perfect example of the power of nature.

River Po is very important for the gathering of hydroelectric power for the region. It is 652 kilometers in length. Another important river that needs to be motioned is the Ada river, which is the longest river that flows entirely in Lombardy. After its 313 kilometers jurney it flows into Lake Como. Other beautiful rivers are Ollio, Ticino, Mincho, Chiesa and many others.

But most of these rivers are used as drainage channels for something even bigger – the lakes of Lombardy. Lake Garda for example has so much water in it that has a significant impact on the local climate. You can find olive trees, lemons and cedars growing on its coasts. Lake Como and its interesting shape like an inverted Y has also a lot to offer. Right in the center of the split is located the charming city of Bellagio. Or visit Lake Iseo, holding the record for the largest lake island in Europe. Other examples of crystal-clear lakes are Lake Maggiore, Lake Lugano, Lake Idro and more.

Because of its diverse flora and fauna, the Lombardi region has many national parks and reserves established in order to preserve the wildlife from the outside world. The forests are made out of mostly elm, alder, sycamore, poplar, willow and hornbeam trees. On the hills surrounding the many lakes however you can observe olive trees, cypresses and larches, as well as magnolias, azaleas, acacias. The saxifrage, the Lombard garlic, groundsels bellflowers and the cottony bellflowers can be found only in the Prealpine area here and nowhere else. On the mountain hill below 1,200 meters ak woods or broad-leafed trees grow and going higher beech trees start to grow, with conifer woods even higher up. The Stelvio National Park makes a good job protecting many wildlife species like red deer, roe deer, ibex, chamois, foxes, ermine and also golden eagles. The park includes an extensive territory of valleys and high mountains. The Ticino Valley Natural Park's job is to protect and conserve one of the last major examples of fluvial forest in northern Italy. Other Parks situated in the region are the Campo dei Fiori and the Cinque Vette Park, both of them are located in the Province of Varese.

Lombardy has nine UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Monte San Giorgio is one example with its wide range of marine Triassic fossils, dating back 240 million years. Fossils include reptiles, fish and crustaceans and also some insects. Another site with prehistoric origin is the Rock Drawings in Valcamonica. Dating back from 8000 BC to 1000 BC, the engravings show depictions of a wide range of topics including agricultural and war scenes.

Having the best of times under the sun

Lombardy is perfect for lake tourism with all the pre-Alpine lakes in the area. Lake Garda has the most famous beaches of them all. You can rent a boat and go on a quiet fishing trip with the family, or get some tan under the Italian sun on the golden beaches. If it gets too hot you can always go for a swim or find a shade under an olive tree. You can try scuba diving or snorkeling as well. Or you can try something more extreme and go canoeing or kayaking on the fast currents of the Alpine rivers. Lombard Alps include several mountain ranges, perfect for mountain biking, skiing, hiking, outdoor climbing and other mountaineering-related activities.

You can always take a walk in the beautiful nature surrounding your accommodation. Find some peace and tranquility amongst the ancient forests and quiet lakes. Have a picnic with the family some late afternoon on a deserted beach or grill some meat and veggies straight out of your very own garden on the barbeque.
