Berlin vacations
Although the capital of Germany is known for its significance in historical, political and economic sense, there is much more to it than what meets the eye. Rivers, lakes, parks and more green attractions await guests to the metropolitan area of Berlin. There are so many reservoirs in Berlin that the city has become a popular summer destination!
We know that Berlin is not the first destination which comes to your mind when you think of a nature vacation. Berliner nature
Schöneberger Südgelände Natural Park is just one of many green spaces in the metropolis. This area used to be a railway yard which was left to decay after the Second World War. Nature took it to herself to create a beautiful city oasis of this forgotten land and today it has been turned into a wild nature park, a jungle within the city, which you can explore by foot. Except for spending time in nature, in Schöneberger Südgelände you can also take a look at some preserved structures such as buildings, a water tower and a locomotive hall. Besides this park, you can also visit Mauerpark, Tempelhof and Görlitzer and enjoy a day of relaxation.
Having mentioned the water reservoirs already, we cannot skip going into detail about them. The lakes are numerous but the stars of the show are definitely Schlachtensee and Krumme Lanke. The former is a favorite to all Berliners as it has a beach, you can rent boats and you also have a lot of by-the-water dining options. Krumme Lanke on the other hand is a peaceful find within busy Berlin, situated right on the edge of Grunewald Forest. Its clear waters will amaze you!
Explore the outdoors and stay active
There is a wonderful walking trail in the outskirts of Berlin. It is called Wuhletalweg and runs along the river Wuhle. The area is very nice, especially for a Sunday day trip. You can rest or have a picnic on the river bank!
Grunewald is another forested territory with a history behind it. In the past, when Germany was still divided, this was the biggest green area in West Berlin, therefore it was often packed with people on the Weekends. Nowadays, you can enjoy the vegetation here, relaxing from daily life and enjoying a walk with your friends.
Viktoria Park is one of our favorite places in the city. A waterfall within the city is something we didn’t even dream of seeing. The park is located on a hill and is filled with wonderful trails of different difficulty. At the top of the waterfall you will see an interesting monument – for the Liberation Wars of Prussia.
