Beautiful Portugal is occupying the western coastline of the Iberian Peninsula with the Atlantic Ocean. Algarve is its southernmost province and a famous destination for an escape of the ordinary – beautiful family-suitable beaches, many waterparks and night clubs for thrill-seeking youngsters. Here you can always find something to do, whether you enjoy the calm or the not-so-calm summer activities. Our list of bungalows gives you the opportunity to have a getaway place among nature, even after enjoying a busy beach throughout the day – you will always have a quiet home to go back to. Choose one of the options here if you wish to wake up to the serene sounds and views of the magnificent Iberian nature and the Atlantic Ocean. With the possibility to accommodate even small groups of travelers, some of the cottages are equipped with everything you might need in terms of comfort. Some of them even have a private pool which you can enjoy together with your friends. Visit Algarve to experience the real feel of a summer vacation in paradise!

A rich local nature

Countless of beach await for you along the Algarve coastline – long beaches, bay beaches and even cove beach (which you need to access from the water). High and almost vertical rock formations usually surround the beaches and draw a picturesque landscape – the perfect photo location especially during sunrise when the beaches are empty. Almost all beaches have the needed amenities – sunbeds to hire, toilets, showers and parking possibilities. Of course, the busiest beaches are those close to the larger cities.

The coastline of Portugal offers some of the best views of steep rocks diving into the blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean. In Ponta da Piedade – you can spend a day in the company of one of the most beautiful spots in Algarve. Here you will find cliffs, numerous rock arches, small hidden caves and romantic pathways. These formations are the result of wind and water forces during winter storms in the ocean. Ponta da Piedade is an iridescent painting of nature, best seen from a boad in the water. However, if you really want to experience this place, we suggest that you take the landside way and take a close look at the majestic formations.

Another beautiful spot to visit is the territory of the Ria Formosa National Park – a lagoon located in the area and recently listed as one of the 7 natural wonders of Portugal. This region is in reality a system of islands with six inlets from the Atlantic Ocean. Apart from being a national park, this place is also important for Portugal’s economy as some of the waters are used as waterways, and on others there are seafood farms. Ria Farmosa is an important bird area (IBA) due to being a rest point for many bird species during migration months including birds like the Greater Flamingo, the Booted Eagle or the Spoonbill. In the waters of the wetlands you can also see herds of seahorses – this region is known to be the home tyo one of the largest seahorse populations on Earth.

Activities

If you want to enjoy watersports or beach volleyball, beach parties and the spirit of young people then Praia de Manta Rota in the bay of Monte Gordo or Praia Da Falésia are both a good location to start. Equipped with everything you might need, these beaches are popular among younger visitors, therefore they can get a lot busier and noisier than others. For hikers and adrenaline fans - Praia Da Marinha dubbed as one of the most beautiful beaches throughout Europe as a whole – provides the perfect possibility for a day filled with adventures. Here, you can go snorkeling in the clear blue waters and explore the underwater life or hike the amazing rock formations. The beach is rather small, so it is best to go there early. Also, have in mind that amenities are scarce, although you can find sunbeds to rent.

If you enjoy calmer beaches better, then head to Praia do Vale de Centeanes – this beach is a perfect location for families. The coastline is surrounded by high rocks providing a natural fence, so you practically cannot lose your kids here. The beach is small, but the crowd is mainly families, so if you are travelling with kids rest assured they will have the most fun with other kids exactly on this beach. The best beach for nature lovers, campers and larger groups is the Praia Da Galé. Enjoy the extensive beaches – there is even a café and some restaurant where, above all else, you can also feast to the gorgeous view of the Atlantic.

Of course, we never forget about passionate hikers and Algarve has a wide range of hiking trails to choose from. One of the most beautiful, in our opinion, is the Telheiro Beach Trail – on this place with geologic significance you can learn a lot about the formation and development of the Iberian Peninsula as we know it today and enjoy some of the most dramatic and picturesque views of the rocky bay.

For those of you who wish to go for just a walk in the nature without a compromise in views and landscape – opt for Castelejo Trail. Steep cliffs, amazing rusty-looking beaches and turquoise waters away for you here. Even on the hottest days – the sea breeze will make your walk enjoyable. The serene nature around will enchant you not only with views, but also with fragrance – stop and smell the vast fields of lavender, thyme, rockrose and wild strawberries in the beginning of the route.

Climate

The region of Algarve never sees subzero temperatures, which is common given its location. Throughout the year temperatures vary between 15°C and 30°C. Long hours of sunshine 300 days per year and an enjoyable breeze are what makes this place a true Iberian paradise. Don’t expect rain, especially if you decide to visit during the summer months – most rainfall occurs between the months of November and March, but even then it is rather a rare sight.
