The Drents-Friese Wold is one of the largest contiguous forest areas in our country. But this national park is more than forest: you wander here from sand drifts to fens, from heath to marshes. And you can still see the typical esdorpenlandschap: bulging fields around the villages and stream valleys full of blooming flowers. In the sopping wetlands of Aekingerbroek you stand at the source of the Vledder Aa, which is allowed to flow freely again. And in the shifting Aekingerzand it is easy to imagine what the immense sandy plains of Drenthe of old must have looked like. The Drents-Friese Wold is not only large, it is also grand in its beauty.
