This nature house is located in the middle of nature reserve ''het Landje van Gruijters'', a lake located on the west side of the old village of Spaarndam. Due to the very low water level, the area is very popular with bird lovers and you will find many species of birds such as the avocet, black-tailed godwit, sandpiper, redshank and spoonbill, but also wagtails, shovelers, moorhen and gadwall. A few hundred meters from this nature house is Fort Benoorden, part of the Defence Line of Amsterdam and thus a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The old dike village of Spaarndam (300 meters) is also worth a visit: this picturesque village overflows with atmosphere and charm and, in addition to a supermarket and public transport facilities, has several restaurants with a terrace on the waterfront. The beaches of IJmuiden, Wijk aan Zee, Bloemendaal and Zandvoort are reachable within 20 car minutes from this nature house, but also large cities such as Alkmaar, Haarlem and Amsterdam are just around the corner.
