Directly behind the dike in the greenery lies the friendly village of Oosterleek. A West Frisian village with just over 100 inhabitants. The sounds you hear here are the church bells, the wind blowing over the meadows and the occasional pheasant or woodpecker.Hidden in the village is the gray cottage. Simple, but fully equipped: Underfloor heating, a rain shower, two cozy bedrooms (2x 1p bed, 1x 2p bed) and a kitchenette with oven, refrigerator and stove. What makes the cottage especially nice are the many windows, the garden surrounding the cottage and the beautiful view from the living room and terrace. The detached cottage is surrounded by greenery and is adjacent to a small nature reserve of the Forestry Commission. This protected area is not open to the public but can be easily seen from the dike. So don't forget your binoculars! The area lends itself well to some further hiking. For a small tour, the farmer next to the village has opened up his land. There are many local products available in the area from local farmers and growers. The nature house in Oosterleek is located behind the dike on the Markermeer between Hoorn and Enkhuizen. These cities are easy to reach by bicycle and car. Public transport is a bit more difficult; a neighborhood bus leaves from Wijdenes to Hoorn. From Enkhuizen the boat leaves for the Marker Wadden.
