Welcome to this very special ruralhut! The name of the house means 'paradise place' in Finnish. The cottage is located on Varivesi, the wide connection between two large lakes in the famous Saimaa area. The sun rises early in the morning (summer at night) on the left side above the lake and right in the lake. During the day the sun rises above the south bank. The house is on the north bank, so there is sun all day! It's not really dark in the summer. The house does not have a water supply: you'll have to take water out of the lake or you can fill bottles for free at special drinking water points at the side of the road. All information about this can be found in a folder in the house. The neighbors (300 meters) are also available. They speak limited English, but their friendliness is the best. The outdoor WC is an eco-toilet and works with compost. There is electricity: stove, kettle, fridge, microwave and heating. There is also a wood burning fireplace in the living room, wood is available. You sleep in the 'aitta', the sleeping house. There is one room (heated) with twin beds and one bedroom with a bunk bed. Somebody else can sleep on the sofa bed in the main house.

The ruralhut is a place of peace and quiet that is only "disturbed" by the sounds of nature. The water is wonderfully clean and in the summer it is great for swimming. In the summer it can be 30 degrees here! Elands live close by, you can just come across them. The dirt road, where only a single resident of another house walks, is 150 meters. It is about five kilometers to the provincial road. By car it is about a 400-450 kilometers drive from Helsinki. Close by are both of Finland's only orthodox monasteries (both men and women) who are very worht a visit. From various places there are boat trips on the lakes, a must do in the bright Finnish nights. The house is located halfway between the beautiful cities of Joensuu and Kuopio (75 kilometers). The Koli Nature Park with its breathtaking landscape is not far away, you can walk and enjoy the sight of Russia across the Great Pieline lake. Fishing at the house is good, there is a grill and fish roast oven. And do not forget the sauna! You dive in the lake, nobody can see you there. Breakfast on the scaffold above the lake is an experience! Of course there is a rowing boat plus one life jacket. The distance to the supermarket, petrol pump and mail is 17 kilometers (Karvio). Warm lunches are also offered at a fair price. There are also other tourist attractions in Karvio or along the way.
