The region of the Alcudia Valley and Sierra Madrona is home to some important natural values, as well as numerous historical and archaeological remains. It is a vast area with well-preserved natural areas, which is due (among other things) to the fact that traditional development models compatible with the preservation of the natural environment have been applied in these areas for centuries. This area covers an area of nearly 200,000 hectares, and the Alcudia Valley itself is about 100 km long and an average of 11 km wide. The Alcudia Valley area forms the transition zone between the southern central plateau and the Guadalquivir Valley. This area is formed by mountain ranges no higher than 1,400 m, running east-west and forming part of the Sierra Morena mountain range.
