Glamping Algarve

Glamping transports the world of premium amenities in nature - typical examples of this type of extravagant vacation are luxury campers, tents or tents in unusual locations, equipped with the amenities of a hotel room, as well as first-class service directly under the open sky.

The purpose of glamping is to provide travelers with a quality and original break from everyday life and to give them a once-in-a-lifetime experience different from the usual holidays. Imagine being in a bungalow on a deserted beach, but you can take advantage of the comfort of a fully equipped bathroom or waking up in a luxurious bed in a tree house.

Glamping means all sorts of unforgettable moments - a movie under the stars on a cozy forest meadow with a glass of champagne in hand. Extreme moments such as a night in the desert or a transition to inaccessible places are now an option for lovers of comfort.

Take a look at our glamping Algarve offer and you will have the most glamorous holiday!

What is Ria Formosa and when was it discovered?

The Ria Formosa Natural Park stretches 170 km² along the Algarve coast from Praia do Garrao in Faro to the Casela Peninsula. In 1987 it was classified as a Natural Park, which gave it the status for the best protection of flora, fauna and lagoons. It is a wetland of international importance, consisting of a mixture of lagoons, salt lakes, peninsulas and canals. In addition to being a tourist attraction, the Ria Formosa also supports other activities that help develop the economy, such as seafood farms and the port of Faro.

If you love fishing or just want to go boating, this would be a great boating opportunity. They can range from kayaking to dolphin watching and fishing. Whatever you do, you will have the opportunity to choose your water sports activities.

If you are an adventure lover, you can go kayaking in pairs or individually. Kayaking is a fairly cheap and energetic activity. The cost of this tour ranges from 20 to 30 euros depending on how much time you want to spend on the water. You will have a lot of fun exploring the beautiful surroundings of Ria Formosa.

Another popular boating activity is a boat tour of the lagoon. You will sail on a large pontoon view along the Ria Formosa, starting in Faro. This tour lasts approximately 45 minutes and costs € 15 per person. The Algarve has an extensive coastline where you can see incredible marine life such as dolphins and turtles. There are many dolphin tours available, but they are more expensive than regular boat tours. Starting at around € 45 per person for a 2-hour tour. The most popular dolphins to be seen in the water are bottlenose dolphins and striped dolphins. If you're lucky, you might also encounter a whale.

These are just a few of the tours on offer throughout the Ria Formosa, so be sure to check getyourguide.com for more options.

Bird watching

Ria Formosa is a birdwatcher's paradise with over 250 species. One of the rarest is the "galinya-sultana". It is known as one of the most important wetlands for waterbirds in Portugal. As an avid bird watcher, it was with great pleasure that I spotted many birds flying around the Ria Formosa.

The lagoon called Lagoa dos Salgados is one of the most popular bird watching spots in the Algarve. Here you will find many species of water birds such as herons, flamingos and black tern, just to name a few. If you would like to connect with a birdwatching expert while visiting the Algarve, be sure to contact Georg at Algarve Birdwatching.

Olhão market

If you are visiting the Algarve, Olhão is the ideal starting point for exploring the Ria Formosa. There are no stunning beaches here as it is the largest fishing port in the Algarve, but you can take boat trips to many of the islands from there. Your trip is incomplete unless you have visited the municipal market located on Avenida 5 de Autubro. The market is conveniently located near the waterfront and has a fresh fruit and vegetable market as well as a fish market. Don't miss the Saturday market as it is an outdoor street market and one of the largest fresh food markets in the Algarve.
