Glamping Drenthe

Have you ever heard of glamping? Glamping is the perfect way to have an unforgettable holiday as close to nature as possible. It is camping, but with a pinch of glamour in it. This means that you will have the luxury of a hotel room or vacation home, but still experience the excitement of camping out in the woods.

Our glamping accommodations consist of yurts, safari tents, tiny houses, tipis, tree houses, houseboats, hiker's huts and gypsy wagons. They are designed in a stylish way inside and out. With charming furniture, and a fully equipped kitchenette. Most of them allow pets and the more expensive ones even have swimming pools. The most important thing is that all of them are situated in the middle of nowhere. Running water, bathrooms and internet is also available in our glamping accommodations in Drenthe.

The beauty of Drenthe's National Parks

Nature in Drenthe has many different facets. Here rugged plains alternate with idyllic landscapes of repeating hedgerows and rows of trees. In addition to the many nature reserves, there are also three National Parks. They are filled with forests, stream valleys, sand drifts, vast flatlands colored by purple heather.

The Dwingelderveld National Park is Europe's largest wet moorland area. It is covered by numerous fens and marsh flats featuring a wide variety of rare plants. At the same time, the moors are a habitat for rare species of butterflies and birds. There are beautiful pine forests in the Lheederzand and Lheebroekerzand, concealing small islands of idyllic moors and fens, such as the Zandveen and Groote veen. The many characteristic juniper shrubs, clustered in vast thickets, are a very prominent feature. You are quite likely to run into shepherds and their sheep in this National Park. There is a bird watching tower at the Davidsplassen.

The Drents-Friese Wold National Park is the largest uninterrupted woodland area in the Netherlands after Hoge Veluwe. The area is perfect for stargazing, given the fact that it has almost zero light pollution. On clear, moonless nights, you can see up to 2900 stars in the area, compared to around 50 in the average city. The Drents-Friese Wold is one of the largest nature reserves in the Netherlands, equal to 10,000 football fields. The park has many mountain biking routes through the thick woods.

Drentsche Aa National Park is not to be missed as well. The park is named after the beautiful stream that runs through it. Be amazed by the beauty of the landscape along the stream’s banks. The Balloërveld is a beautiful heathland right in the heart of the area. You’ll see fens and sand drifts and come across the mysterious giants of Drenthe - the prehistoric hunebeds. Visiting UNESCO Geopark de Hondsrug there is filled with sunbeds and the cart tracks that are all that remains of a prehistoric highway. There are many natural reserves in Drenthe as well like the Mantingerveld, Sleenerzand, Reestdal and many others.

What to do in Drenthe?

Wander through one of the Natural Parks, or go on an excursion with a forester or guide. Or stop by in some of the many small villages in the region and get close to the culture and traditional Dutch cuisine. For the birdwatchers there are bird excursions organized every year, where you can learn from a professional how to recognize birds by their songs and calls. If still eager to learn something new, stop by a sheepfold. The shepherds will be happy to tell you all about their unusual profession.

Be sure to take your telescope with you while visiting Drents-Friese Wold National Park and gaze at the stars. Or if something more exciting is what you are looking for, the woods there are perfect for mountain biking. You’ll find that there are plenty of small climbs, dips, and single tracks that require some steering skills. There’s plenty for you to experience. Whether you decide to go on a canoe ride in Appelscha, visit the Doldersummerveld Sheepfold, or walk the experience trail at Hoogersmilde, you’re sure to have a memorable visit in the park. You can take a hike or cycle to the ancient monuments from the last age and feel like you went back in time. Take your family and go horseback riding in the Dwingelderveld. Find a cozy and quiet spot and have a nice afternoon picnic under the trees.

Exploring the wilderness has never been easier with glamping. You can just go outside and enjoy the fresh air, while birds are singing over your head. It is the perfect time to relax and escape from the noisy and polluted city life.
