Glamping Utrecht

Glamping is the perfect way to enjoy nature without feeling too far away from civilization. Glamping allows travelers to immerse into the unique nature of their destination of choice, while ensuring the presence of contemporary amenities all while camping in the wild. The rural parts of Utrecht present a possibility to understand Dutch customs and traditions with regards to nature, without compromising with your own comfort.

Utrecht is one of the biggest cities in the Netherlands and is often visited by tourists as it is quite near to the capital Amsterdam. Utrecht is one of the cities with the most pronounced old Dutch architecture and the most number of canals. Outside of the city, a new world emerges. Peace and calm have covered the area making you feel as if Amsterdam is light years away. Glamping is the perfect way to discover the territory of Utrecht.

Dutch nature at its best

Despite the fact that the Netherlands is a famously flat country, centuries ago the landscape of this city grew into a ridge. The Utrecht Hill Ridge is a small sandhill going for more than 50 km in width and providing amazing views of the city with the city center. In the past this area was covered by a dense wood, today it stays “naked” covered mainly in heather.

Despite being a very well developed metropolitan area, the Utrecht province is also home to one of the most distinctive national parks in the country – Heuvelrug. Heuvelrug is named after the glacial ridge which created it with the help of natural forest hundreds of years ago. One of the biggest forests is situated on the park premises and it almost completely consists of beeches and oaks, making it the perfect nesting place for many bird species.

Activities to try in the surrounding areas

The Vecht River flows through the area between Utrecht and the capital. Alongside the river, a beautiful and peaceful recreational area has developed. In the river area you can enjoy a park, some castles as well as villas with historical significance. Moreover, the area presents a network of interconnected waterways and man-made lakes, thus turning it into a popular sailing location.

Heuvelrug National Park provides calmer activities such as walking and cycling. Riding a horse along stunning paths deep in the forest is also an option. We suggest you do this with a guide in order to get the most information about the region and its population.

In order to see the most beautiful parts of the province, all while getting some exercise on a bike, take the Windmill trail. On this route you will ride along the Angste and Vecht riverbanks, eventually arriving at the town of Gein where you can learn a lot about the history of Utrecht. On your way you will pass many windmills and even more restaurants serving local Gauda cheese, stampot and other traditional dishes. The windmills were and still are important for the local business and agriculture.
