Seaside cottages

It is true that there is nothing better than waking up with a sea view! We love it too, which is why our list of seaside cottages always grows. The seaside cottages are located in beautiful coastal areas, away from crowds but still close enough to the beach area. You can purely relax while being a short walk away from the seaside, waking up to the sound of waves.

European seaside destinations are often crowded. France and Italy, as well as the Iberian Peninsula are usually preferred by most tourists. However, even in these hot seaside destinations, you can explore the area and find yourself a smaller and much quieter beach to enjoy.

Seaside nature

Did you know that the Netherlands are also a great summer destination? The coastline in the province of Zeeland is more than 600km long and has something to offer for everyone. The beaches of Oostkapelle are some of the cleanest along the coast, while Cadzand draws people for its abundance of beach activities.

Greece is a popular summer destination, but if you visit in spring you can still enjoy nice weather without many other tourists. For instance, you can go to Fteri Beach. Of course, as is the case with most of the relatively unpopular beaches, reaching this one can be a challenge, but all the effort will be worth it in the end! The crystal clear water is heavenly, but just look at those dramatic rocky sceneries! Visiting this beach jewel can prove to be a life-long memory!

Portugal is another popular summer destination, which in fact offers many possibilities for a relaxing holiday to its visitors. The coastline of Portugal offers some of the best views of steep rocks diving into the blue waters of the Atlantic Ocean. In Ponta da Piedade (Algarve) you will find cliffs, numerous rock arches, small hidden caves, and romantic pathways. Another beautiful spot is the Ria Formosa National Park – a lagoon located in the area. This region is a system of islands with six inlets from the Atlantic Ocean. Apart from being a strikingly beautiful national park, the waterways are economically important to the province of Algarve.

Activities

Zeeland offers numerous hiking and cycling possibilities on an extensive trail network. One of our most favorite routes is the path that crosses the woods and dunes of Mantling van Walcheren reserve. For nine kilometers of pure bliss, you get to enjoy a beautiful reserve and Zeeland’s oldest beach resort with some of the cleanest beaches and waters of the North Sea.

The hikers among you will be thrilled to know that the possibilities for hiking in Portugal are truly endless. Our favorite trail however has always been to the top of Pico Ruivo on Madeira. This is the highest peak on the island and there are two paths to the top – the regular one is suitable for the more experienced hikers. Castelejo Trail is another hiking path, which provides a more laid back experience. It follows the coastline and the steep cliffs, through secluded beaches and small hidden bays.
