Sweden Christmas holidays

What a better place to spend the Christmas holidays than the snowy paradise of Sweden? The snow, the northern lights, the nature, the people and their way of living in the hardly bearable cold – everything is fascinating. There is no need for us to explain how remarkable and unique Sweden’s nature actually is. If you are a nature enthusiast and a fan of national parks like us then Sweden will take your breath away.

Take the time and plan your perfect Christmas holiday in Sweden, where you will be able to enjoy nature without the disturbance of large crowds of people. Our accommodation options include bungalows, chalets and other nature houses equipped to answer all your needs and to make you feel at home while on vacation.

The nature of the North

Abisko, one of the northernmost points in Sweden, is where you could roam nature with a guide and in complete darkness if you choose to visit during the “no-sun” period of December and January. The nature is spectacular, although you need to plan your visit accordingly in order to be able to see at least some of it. Nevertheless, winter is also the best time to see the Aurora Borealis as there is hardly any light to disturb your view.

Muddus is a natural park and home to a variety of natural attractions such as waterfalls and forests. There is something which you should by all means see, and it is the Muttosgahtjaldak waterfall. Unlike its name, the view of the waterfall is one thing you will not be able to forget.

As already mentioned, the country is rich in islands, and you just have to visit at least some of them. The Kalix and the Kvarken archipelago are worth the visit! Kalix is a network of 800 islands with Malören being the one island, which you must see if you get the chance to. With its unique shape similar to a coral atoll and its terrific location in the Gulf of Bothnia, this island will amaze you with its nature, picturesque lighthouse and a wooden chapel. Kvarken Archipelago is much larger and counts for more than 5,000 small islands shared between Sweden and Finland. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is constantly changing due to the natural forces occurring in the Baltic Sea.

Activities to try

How can you go to Sweden and not try dog sledding? You can’t. Dog sledding is a popular transportation means throughout the northernmost territories including Lapland. It has been used for centuries and is now one of the most favorite activities for tourists from around the world.

Because Lapland is the original home of the Sami tribes, you can learn about their culture and traditions especially in the region of Abisko National Park. There are many ethnographic museums and even small Sami villages which welcome tourists.

For the adrenaline-seeking travelers, wintertime Sweden offers a great opportunity to try snowmobiling. You will explore some of the greatest sceneries, away from all civilization in remote wild areas, which would otherwise be impossible to visit by any other type of transportation.
