Veluwezoom National Park
Veluwezoom National Park is a national park in the Netherlands located in the province of Gelderland. This park is the oldest national park in the Netherlands. It has an area of 50 square kilometers at the southeastern end of the Veluwe, a terminal complex pushing moraines from the Saalian glaciation. It has a pronounced relief by Dutch standards, with the highest point in the park being 110 meters above sea level. It is a private national park owned by the Vereniging Natuurmonumenten, the largest conservation organization in the Netherlands.
The landscape of the park consists of forests and wasteland, which is kept open by grazing mountain cattle, and a small carry of sand, which is kept open by human maintenance. The native fauna is represented by red deer, wild boar, badger and regionally rare pine marten.
De Hoge Veluwe National Park
De Hoge Veluwe National Park is a Dutch national park in the province of Gelderland near the cities of Ede, Wageningen, Arnhem and Apeldoorn. It is approximately 55km2 in an area consisting of desert land, sand dunes, and forests. It is located in Veluwe, the area of the largest terminal moraine in the Netherlands. Most of the landscape of the park and Veluwe was created during the last Ice Age. The alternating sand dune areas and deserts may have been caused by human use of the surrounding lands. The park is one of the largest continuous nature reserves in the Netherlands.
During the spring, the wildlife population in the park usually consists of approximately 200 red deer, 150 deer, 50 boar, and 200 mouflon. Other species found in the park include foxes, badgers, and European pine marten.
